Hi Reader,

Here’s a quick roundup of the grooming tools and supplies I reviewed this June and July on ShavingAdvisor.com.

If you’re thinking about upgrading or trying something new, these summaries might help you decide what’s worth it and what’s not.

Apologies for missing the June recap—I was just way too busy with the reviews.

A lot was tested and reviewed during June and July.....

Braun Series 5 vs Philips Series 5000 – Comparison – Which Is Best?

If I had to choose just one of these shavers to keep, I’d opt for the Philips Series 5000—and not by a small margin, either. The comfort and the way it keeps consistent contact with the skin really sold it for me (plus how it leaves fewer leftovers and clears up more easily). The Braun is still a solid shaver, but in this comparison, it just didn’t perform quite as well overall.

If you’re looking for a slimmer design or don’t mind swapping in an attachment for trimming, the Braun might still appeal to you. But for an all-round comfortable, quieter, and slightly more effective shave, I’d recommend the Philips.

Keep in mind that my skin and hair type are primarily suited for rotary-style shavers. Other guys know they get along best with foil-type shavers, so it’s best to know what type suits you best.

Another thing to keep in mind is the price difference; the Philips S5000 generally costs more than the S5.

Philips (Norelco) Bodygroom 1100 Review – A Budget Body Trimmer That Surprised Me

The Philips Bodygroom 1100 is a handy body trimming tool that’s inexpensive and trims much quicker than I expected. It could be the ideal manscaping tool for those new to body trimmers to try out without spending a lot of money.

So, would I recommend the Philips Bodygroom 1100?

For the price, absolutely—especially for someone just getting into body grooming or looking for an affordable backup tool.

It’s simple, lightweight, and surprisingly effective in most areas. It won’t replace my go-to for groin grooming (I still prefer the Manscaped Lawn Mower 3.0 Plus for that job), but at a third of the price, it’s hard to complain too much.

Just don’t expect premium features or a shave-level finish. The 1100 is a budget trimmer, and it acts like one in some ways—but in others, it genuinely overperforms.

If you want to shave (not just trim) larger areas and achieve results closer to the skin, consider the Philips Bodygroom 3000, 5000, or 7000.

Panasonic ES-RM3B (Arc 3) Review: A Minimalist Marvel or Just Bare Bones?

The Panasonic ES-RM3B Arc 3 is a budget-friendly, minimalistic shaver that has delivered me surprisingly close shaves for its price. However, its basic feature set and unconventional design might not appeal to everyone.

After spending a month with the Panasonic ES-RM3B Arc 3, my recommendation is somewhat nuanced.

If you’re on a tight budget and looking for a reasonably close shave, particularly for daily or every-other-day use, and appreciate a compact and modern design, then the ES-RM3B could be a viable option, especially if you can find it in the $35-$40 range.

Its slim and minimalistic profile might also make it a decent travel shaver.

However, its lack of a pivoting head, non-ergonomic design, and the absence of a built-in trimmer are significant drawbacks to consider. If you regularly let your beard grow beyond three days or value features like a pivoting head and a dedicated trimmer for detail work, you might find the ES-RM3B lacking.

Remington F4 Shaver Review– Passes As A Budget Foil Option

I found the Remington F4 to be an option worth comparing with other budget-range shavers. It incorporates some of the useful features of mid-range-priced shavers at a lower cost; however, the quality, as expected, is somewhat lower.

Considering its budget-friendly price, the Remington F4 is a comparable shaver to others in the $50/£40 range, such as the Braun Series 3 (310 model) or some Philips 2000 series models. It provides a decent, comfortable shave, especially for daily or every-other-day use.

It’s important to manage expectations; this shaver won’t provide the “wow” factor of premium models like the Philips Prestige, Panasonic Arc 5, or Braun Series 9 Pro. But it’s not trying to – it’s offering good performance for its price.

If you’re looking for an affordable electric shaver for regular, short-stubble shaving, the Remington F4 is definitely worth considering. Just be mindful that on longer, 3-day-plus growth, it might require more time and effort to achieve a clean result.

Remington Virtually Indestructible Shaver Review – A Must Read Before Buying Shaver

The Remington Virtually Indestructible, just by its name, conjured up a good impression in me and an expectation. However, despite its affordability, its performance fell short of a level that was a significant deal breaker.

Honestly, after testing and using it a few times, I must admit it’s probably one of the worst shavers I’ve used in the last few years. It’s just so uncomfortable. The motor feels underpowered, and the blades/cutters don’t feel comfortable on the skin at all.

Who is this shaver for? Despite its budget price point, I struggle to recommend it to many people. If I had to guess, individuals with hardy, less sensitive skin or those with finer, less dense hair growth might get along better with it. But for anyone with normal to sensitive skin, especially with tougher growth, this shaver is likely to cause irritation.

Gillette ProGlide Power Razor Review: Does the Buzz Make a Difference?

The Gillette ProGlide is a suitable razor for normal to hardy skin, effectively handling coarse growth. Adding some microvibrations to the razor does have an effect, and while I don’t think it’s a must-have feature that will wow anyone, it was enjoyable to try.

The pulsating micro vibration feature of the Gillette ProGlide Power is obviously not a feature that will wow many, and was likely created to keep us, the customers, interested in buying Gillette products.

As for the vibrations, though, yes, I believe they do help somewhat. But would I go out of my way to purchase the Power version if I already had a standard ProGlide handle and was trying to save money? Probably not.

It feels a bit gimmicky, but it does have some effect. The only other minor downside is that there is an initial distraction from the vibration, but you become accustomed to it fairly quickly.

Keep in mind what I have mentioned about the blades (i.e., two types) and consider whether the slightly wider handle of the ProGilde Power will suit you best rather than the standard handle.

King Of Shaves Cooling Shave Gel Review – Great Gel For The Price

The gel from King of Shaves is one that most men needing an affordable shave gel can’t go wrong with. The cooling menthol does cool without being overpowering, and this stuff is super slick.

Prior to using this King of Shave Cooling Shave Gel, I had the more expensive Bump Patrol Cool Shave Gel as my No. 1 (it still is), and the product from BullDog at No. 2.

However, I am placing this gel above the BullDog Shave Gel and positioning it in slot two. It goes somewhat further than BullDog, and the slickness lasts longer while shaving.

Gillette Fusion 5 Power Review – Additional Vibes Assist The Shave Somewhat

The Gillette Fusion 5 Power offers an efficient, close shave, and the power vibrations can assist the shave, particularly if you take your time. I’m not a fan of the lightweight handle, and I did encounter an odd issue with the blade rattling.

Reflecting on the power feature, I still believe it does assist the shave somewhat, especially if you take your time and let the vibrations work. However, as I experienced, it can also be slightly annoying or distracting at times, particularly with the rattling blade I initially used.

While I don’t necessarily need the micro vibrations, it’s a nice feature to test out. It offers a different dimension to the shave.

A personal “con” remains the lightness of the handle. I much prefer the slightly heavier feel of the ProGlide Shield or ProGlide Power handles. That said, this is a personal preference and likely not a deal-breaker for most users.

That’s it for June and July of 2025. Please let me know if there’s anything you’d like me to test next. I’m always trying out new grooming products and happy to take suggestions.
